Do not let your asbestos license expire! This Asbestos Inspector Refresher training course is essential for recertification as an Asbestos Inspector. The Asbestos Inspector refresher training recertifies individuals to survey, identify and assess the condition of asbestos and asbestos material and record and report the results. It also accredits any individual handling the collection of bulk samples of asbestos material or suspected asbestos material for laboratory analysis.

OSHA requires that all surfacing material - (i.e. sprayed-on or trowled-on materials) and all thermal systems insulation must be presumed to be asbestos containing materials (PACM) in buildings constructed before 1981. OSHA also requires that in these same buildings, all vinyl, resilient, and asphaltic flooring, and the associated mastics and backings must be assumed to be asbestos containing. Only laboratory analysis of samples obtained by a trained and certified asbestos building inspector can rebut OSHAs position on PACM or flooring in buildings constructed before 1981. Building owners, and those involved with construction activities, must identify all asbestos containing materials in the areas of construction via due diligence.

During this course, students will receive a regulatory review and update on new asbestos legislation pertinent to asbestos abatement work. Beneficial features of this course include real-world examples from experienced instructors, as well as an overview of OSHA, AHERA, NESHAP; acceptable work practices; workplace safety; and air monitoring techniques. You will have the opportunity to interact with your peers and course instructors for maximized learning.

The Following Topics Will Be Reviewed:

There was a lot of open discussion on asbestos abatement and problems with state regulators. But there was maybe only an hour of actual building inspector refresher information. I understand that this approach is better and more relaxed for those that take the course and state exam all the time... but I have only taken the test once in my life. I was just hoping to get a better review out of the instructor before the exam since I don't regularly practice building inspector tasks. It's important for him to remember that not all of us do this full time and all the time. I felt my time wasn't used in the best way to prepare for the state certification exam. Most importantly, when one of the students in the class goes on a ... time consuming rant about something not related to asbestos, the instructor should probably direct the class back to the topic of asbestos.
