This Lead Renovator RRP Initial Certification course is 8 hours in length and includes approved lead safety training and the required certification exam.

This RRP training is conducted in English. To view training options in Spanish, please click here.

Any contractor performing qualifying renovation, repair, or painting (RRP) work on pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities must employ at least one Certified Renovator who has successfully completed this training.

Companies must also submit an application to register as a Lead Safe Certified Firm with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the EPA-Authorized State in which RRP work will be performed.

This course is approved for purposes of certification under Section 402 of TSCA and/or EPA-Authorized State lead regulations for Lead-safe Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) work.

More about the RRP Training and Lead Paint Regulations

Effective April 22, 2010, anyone who performs renovations, repairs, or painting in pre-1978 housing or child-occupied facilities must comply with the Lead RRP Rule. Individuals and firms that are not certified could face fines of up to $41,056 per day. 

The Lead-Safe RRP rule applies if your project disturbs:
  • More than 6 square feet of interior painted surface AND/OR
  • More than 20 square feet of exterior painted surface

How Do I Get RRP Lead-safe Certified?

  1. Register and successfully complete this 8-hour lead certification course.
  2. Submit an application to EPA or EPA-Authorized state on behalf of your company (even if you're a sole proprietor). See below for details.
  3. Receive your certificate from class and your firm certificate, finalize any additional paperwork required by your state, and you are ready to get to work!

 

This course is provided by an accredited trainer who is approved by the EPA and/or EPA-Authorized lead program in compliance with all regulations in the state in which the course is being held.  It will satisfy the 8-hour training requirement for individuals to attain certification in Lead Paint Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP). Individuals who attend the course, participate fully in the hands-on activities, and pass the certification exam will receive a Certified Renovator certificate.


Firm Certification

Firms, including sole-proprietors, landlords, etc. must submit an application stating that they will be utilizing a Certified Renovator to perform lead-safe work. Your training provider will discuss all registration requirements during class, and will provide the necessary forms when applicable.

To perform RRP work in an EPA-Authorized State (ALDEGAIAKSMAMSNCOKORRIUT, VT, WA or WI): Firm registration must be processed directly with the applicable state lead program(s). 

To work in all other states: Firm registration must be processed with the EPA via an online application. The EPA Lead-Safe Firm fee is $300, and it is valid for 5 years.

ParkingSeagull Environmental is in the process of moving. Students are asked to meet at 8:30am at USA GROCERS at 2349 NW 9th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. At this location, after secure parking, a transport vehicle will transport you to Seagull's temporary training location where parking is unavailable, only three blocks away. A free lunch is offered or you may use your personal UBER Eats account for delivery. The transport vehicle is equipped with dual air sanitizing devices with HEPA, charcoal and electrostatic filters. The vehicle is sprayed with sanitizer after each use.

Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source.

Overall a good class that guarantees that you will learn a lot. I was not sure what to expect when I showed up and there... Overall a good class that guarantees that you will learn a lot. I was not sure what to expect when I showed up and there was not a full class of students, but rather few multi media stations. The class is conducted with several parts through the day with a combination of video material review utilizing a presentation and breakout explanations of each area. The second part of the class is hands on application of what was covered with PPE, containment and practical application. At the end there is a test and after passing you are certified. It is a full day, but so much is covered and very eye opening as to the extent that lead is present on our jobs.

I needed to complete this course ASAP to prepare for an upcoming job. When I was looking online for the earliest opportunity,... I needed to complete this course ASAP to prepare for an upcoming job. When I was looking online for the earliest opportunity, I found this class being offered the next day, so I signed up. During a phone call to the local course provider, I learned that I would be the only student in the class. At this point, I realized that the course would be offered through a computer terminal and is probably offered every day the local provider is open for business. That makes sense, since the rush for contractors to become certified to meet the "new law" ended over a decade ago. It would be difficult to fill classrooms and offer courses on a regular schedule with the occasional new contractor signing up. Since there was no course offered in my immediate area, I drove a few hours to the location. I was prepared to be bored stiff for 8 hours. The local provider was a training center for a number of activities, and the facility was easy to find. The representative promptly got me set up in their conference room with several computer terminals and started a training module for my course. To my surprise, the pre-recorded video was both interesting and informative and kept my attention for the duration of the course. At the end of the course, there was a hands-on session, which is the reason the course couldn't be taken from home, I suppose. The rep handling the hands-on portion was knowledgeable and experienced in the course material, so it was quite informative.
