Why should you take this Mold Assessor course?

This Mold Assessor course is required for professionals who will perform mold assessment and will design and write remediation plans for mold remediation/abatement projects in the state of New York. The course covers mold health hazards, biological sampling, and best mold assessment practices from preparation to cleanup.

New York State regulations require any individual performing mold assessment to attend an accredited mold assessor training program. Upon successful completion of the course, student will be able to submit an application to New York State Department of Labor Licensing unit to obtain a license.

 

Who needs a NY Mold Assessor License? 

Any business that engages in mold assessment on a project, advertises that it is a mold assessment business, or holds itself out as a mold assessment business, AND any individual engaged in mold assessment.

Mold assessment is defined as any inspection or assessment of property for the purpose to discover mold, conditions that facilitate mold, and/or any conditions that indicate they are likely to encourage mold. 

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Participants who wish to receive a NYS Mold License are required to have a valid NYS DMV ID number, in the form of a drivers license or non-driver state ID card. You do not have to be a resident of NY to apply for a non-driver ID card.

Abatement contractors, construction professionals, building consultants, and environmental remediation and consulting contractors should take this Mold Assessor course to qualify to perform mold assessment, protect worker safety, and ensure compliance with New York State regulations per Section 931.1 in order to avoid fines.

Requirements for Mold Assessor License

An applicant for a Mold Assessor License must:

  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Satisfactorily complete this Mold Assessor Training Course from a Department of Labor approved training provider
  • Pay the statutorily required application fee of $150
  • Submit proof of:
    • Workers’ Compensation coverage, if required
    • Disability insurance coverage, if required
    • Liability insurance coverage of at least $50,000 providing coverage for claims from the licensed activities and operations performed according to New York State Labor Law Article 32.

Marvin is a great guy, and is very knowledgeable. However, I feel like he repeated himself 1,000 times and could have learned... Marvin is a great guy, and is very knowledgeable. However, I feel like he repeated himself 1,000 times and could have learned everything we covered in 32 hours in 8 hours. He also answered a lot of questions that were super off topic (i.e people asking about mold in their refrigerator) and would go off tangent on a level that was previously unknown to me. The course accomplished what I needed, however it was a grueling experience.
