Did you know? The major differences between salespersons and brokers are license requirements and client interaction. Brokers are generally required to have more education and sales experience than real estate salespersons. A real estate salesperson is licensed by the state, but must work for a broker. In order to obtain your Sales License, you need 75 hours of sales class time. You do not need to have any previous sales experience to become a salesperson, nor are there any prior education requirements. No GED required. Unless you are a lawyer or attorney, all persons must complete 75 hours of sales time in order to obtain a license.

Please Note:  In order to be eligible for our school exam as well as the state exam, you must complete 18 out of the 20 modules, totaling 67.5 hours of mandatory class time. Our textbook is not included in the price of the course package and is offered to our students for $45.00. Pay $45 and if you choose to return it you will receive $45 in NYREI credit - full details will be given to you when you start classes.

The NYREI Process:

• Our class is offered in 20 separate numbered sessions.
• You can start any day, any time, with any session number.
• Sessions are independent of one another, so you can take them in any order. However there is an extra charge for repeating sessions and the State does not all credit for repeat sessions.
• Once you complete all 20 sessions, you can take your NYREI and Department of State exams.
• Once both exams are passed, you can apply for your license with your sponsoring broker.

The Real Estate Salesperson Classes:

The Salesperson Course is 75 hours, broken up into 20 sessions. The sessions are independent of each other and can be taken in any order. Our unique scheduling system allows you to begin classes at any time.

Except for holidays, the course is given seven days a week, including one night and one weekend day each month for your convenience. You can take your sessions at any NYREI location, provided that you are not repeating a session number (there is an extra charge for repeating sessions).

At other schools which have a fixed schedule, if you have to miss a class you will not have enough hours to complete the course and may have to take it all over again. Our flexible schedule allows you to create your own schedule so you are guaranteed to finish the course the first time.

Here are some examples of how you can finish your 20 sessions at NYREI:

1. Fast Track: Start any day during the week and finish in 10 weekdays.
2. Evenings: Start any night and finish in 20 straight nights Monday – Thursday, classes start at 6PM.
3. Mornings: Start any weekday morning and finish in 20 weekday mornings.
4. Afternoons: Start any weekday afternoon and finish in 20 weekday afternoons.
5. Weekends: Start any weekend and finish in 10 straight weekend days (5 consecutive weekends).
6. Saturday or Sunday ONLY: Start and go either day only and finish after 10 days.
7. Mix & Match: Plan your own schedule. Combine mornings, afternoons, and evenings in any sequence that is convenient for you.

Sales classes are offered seven days a week in our Manhattan office (3 class sessions Monday-Thursday, 2 class sessions Fridays & weekends). We also offer our Salesperson program online. If any of our other locations are more convenient, we allow our students to attend classes in any of our four locations as long as they complete the 75 hour requirement. You cannot mix and match online and class sessions. Students must choose which way they'd like to complete their 75 hours prior to registering (either online or in-class sessions).

You have four (4) months from the time you attend your first course to complete the sales course and school exam. NYREI offers its students a two month extension after four months. The extension fee is $150.00. We encourage all students to finish within 4 months. Each class is approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours long.

In order to be eligible for our school exam as well as the state exam, you must complete 18 out of the 20 modules, totaling 67.5 hours of mandatory class time. Our textbook is not included in the price of the course package and is offered to our students for $45.00.

You do not need to take the course in any particular order as all our lessons are independent of one another. You don't need information from one lesson in order to move on to the next one. You can start classes in any order.

The Exam and What Comes After:

You must take our school exam and upon achieving a 65% passing grade or higher, you will receive a certificate of completion. You do not need to preregister for the exam because the school exam is offered every Monday at 1:00 pm, one weekend a month and one week night a month. If you do not pass the first time around, you can always schedule to re-take the exam with one of our counselors. You have three attempts to pass the exam. A $25.00 fee will be assessed after the third attempt.

Once you pass the exam, you will receive a certificate of completion. Save this certificate, as it proves you've completed all coursework. The State Department may or may not ask you to mail it in to them at some point. If you haven't done so already, you must obtain an eAccess account on the New York Department of State website. This account will allow you to register for your state exam.

You can take both the state and school exam in any order you like, but you must successfully pass both exams in order to apply for your license. NYREI does not administer the State Exam. You must go to your local Department of State to take the exam. Exams are held every Tuesday. The cost for the exam is $15.00.

After you pass the state exam, you must find a broker to sponsor you. Once you've done so, you can formally apply for your Salesperson License. The cost to apply for your sales license is $50.00. Once you receive it, you can start working immediately. We have brokers that come to NYREI 6 days a week to recruit students. They actively recruit between classes, so feel free to stay and listen to what they have to say. You're also welcome to find a broker independently.

Please Note:  Your passing school exam is good for eight (8) years and your passing state exam is good for two (2) years. No degrees are necessary to obtain a salesperson license.
