Why Should You Take This Basic Electricity and Electronics webinar?
This Basic Electricity and Electronics webinar provides a comprehensive understanding of the electrical and electronic fundamental concepts at the basis of any technical industry. Upon completion of the course students will be able to determine voltage, current, resistance, and power values for electrical circuits in any configuration, both under DC and AC condition, and will have an understanding of the operation of the main electrical and electronic components. Digital and analog instruments and the related measuring procedures are also introduced as well as the electrical safety rules and principles of troubleshooting.
Target Audience: For students who want a comprehensive understanding of basic electrical and electronic concepts needed to advance a career or promote business opportunities in an industry requiring this knowledge
Learning Outcomes:
Benefits of Completing Training:
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for taking this course
Part I – Basic Math and DC Fundamentals:
In Basic Math and DC Fundamentals, students will begin by reviewing basic mathematic principles and the metric system used for electrical quantities. Then, the basic components are introduced as well as the electrical quantities and their use in analyzing simple electrical and electronic circuits. The course concludes with the discussion of Ohm"s Law and Kirchhoff"s Laws applied to any circuit configuration.
Objectives:
Chapter 1: Applied Math and the Metric System
This chapter provides a review of mathematic principles commonly used for basic electricity and electronics. Scientific notation, percentages, and the use of electrical prefixes and multipliers will be explained as well as the metric system and conversions between different units of the same quantity.
Chapter 2: DC Fundamentals
This chapter introduces the fundamental electrical quantities, the basic electric components, and the laws and rules that apply to electrical circuits. The chapter enables the students to analyze DC circuits in any configuration by using the fundamental laws.
Part II – AC Fundamentals and Measuring Instruments:
In AC Fundamentals and Measuring Instruments, students will learn about the AC voltage, current and the characteristics of circuits made of capacitors, inductors, and resistors when an AC power source is applied. The relationship between current and voltage in AC circuits is explained and resonant circuits, frequency filters, and transformers are discussed. The use of digital and analog measuring instruments, principles of troubleshooting, and electrical safety are also reviewed.
Objectives:
Chapter 3: AC Fundamentals
In this chapter AC voltage and current sources are explained, as well as the operation of circuits having capacitors, inductors, and transformers. Power factor, resonant circuits and frequency filters are also discussed.
Chapter 4: Measuring Instruments, Troubleshooting, and Safety
This chapter provides an overview of analog and digital meters and illustrates how to perform resistance, voltage, and current measurements in an electrical circuit. The basic troubleshooting techniques and safety rules are also introduced.
Part III – Electronic Fundamentals:
In Electronics Fundamentals, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles of electronics. The course begins with the discussion of the semiconductor theory and the description of different types of diodes (i.e.: junction diodes, zener diodes, light emitting diodes). The transistor operation as an amplifier and as a switch is explained, and types of power transistors such as SCR and TRIAC described. The course concludes with the description of the main building blocks of a power supply.
Objectives:
Chapter 5: Electronics Fundamentals
The chapter introduces different types of diodes and transistors and the semiconductor theory at the basis of their operation. A few basic electronic devices (rectifiers, power switches, power supply, etc.) are illustrated along with their characteristics and applications.
