Why Should You Take This CAZ (Combustion Appliance Zone) Refresher Course?
This CAZ (Combustion Appliance Zone) Refresher workshop covers the review of residential homes as a system theory and the performance of combustion appliance zone (CAZ) depressurization tests. Field training will demonstrate the testing protocols and provide students with the skills needed to properly conduct CAZ inspections and testing on residential combustion appliances.
When do you have to do Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) Testing?
Anytime there is a combustion appliance inside the thermal boundary, CAZ testing should be performed. The objective of CAZ testing is to determine if combustion appliances will vent under worst case conditions and protect the occupant from the hazards of draft reversal.
Each assessing organization should strongly consider getting at least one employee BPI and/or RESNET training. This individual can then conduct training for the rest of the assessors on your team. This document can serve to set the guidelines for basic CAZ test and BPI level testing, but it cannot replace professional training.
CAZ testing is a series of tests that systematically assess combustion appliances for safety. These are the categories of tests that will be performed and what you will be trained to do:
