Why Should You Take This Weatherization Tactics Course?
This Weatherization Tactics course focuses on the theory, methods, and techniques for installation of weatherization materials. This course will cover the hands-on application of weather-stripping, insulation, ventilation, glazing, caulking, hand and power tools, safety, door, and window installation. In addition, the course will outline the theory and application of more difficult weatherization procedures, such as the installation of prime doors, windows, minor tool repair, plaster and sheet rock repair.
Course Format: This is a lecture-lab course in which topics are presented by the instructor utilizing handouts, presentations and hands-on demonstrations. Following instructor lecture and demonstrations, students will be monitored while performing skills and procedures in the lab.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of weatherization principles and building science theory
- Identify the different types of basic construction, potential air leakage, and areas requiring new or additional insulation required for effective energy retrofits
- Assess and remediate issues pertaining to HVAC ducting, ventilation, moisture, and building cavities
- Demonstrate the ability to replace glass in windows and doors according to PA WAP standards
- Work with attic spaces to determine proper ventilation and installation requirements
- Work with accessing building cavities to include drywall patching, building and installing access doors
- Comply with PA WAP standards through demonstration of ability to effectively air seal and insulate buildings
Evaluation and Grading: To successfully complete the course and receive certification, the student must complete the written exam with a minimum score of 70% and pass the lab exam.
Classroom Rules of Conduct:
- Safety Glasses must be worn at all times while in the shop area.
- Leather-type work shoe or boot must be worn. NO open-toed shoes or sandals!
- All students are responsible for properly cleaning up their area, properly storing parts, and returning all tools at the end of class.
- No cell phone use during class, cells phones may be checked during breaks only.
- This is a smoke free school zone; smoking is not permitted on school grounds.
