This Lead Supervisor/Project Monitor course meets California CDPH requirements for Supervisor/Project Monitor training. In this five-day course, students will learn how lead abatement is performed in a variety of settings. Students will also learn how to safely handle lead materials during construction projects that impact surfaces coated with lead paint. Students will also learn how to select appropriate abatement actions for varying field conditions.
Students will participate in extensive hands-on workshops where they are shown how to take personal air samples, collect paint-chips, soil and settled-dust samples. Students will also participate in an abatement workshop performing a mock abatement using manual and mechanical methods to remove paint. Students will set up containments appropriate for public and residential buildings, utilize negative air machines, HEPA-filtered vacuums, use specialized paint removal tools, and pass/fail clearance test.

Proof of Experience: A current and active contractor's license issued in your name by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) within the classifications A, ASB, B, C12, C15, C17, C21, C32, C33, C34, C35, C39, C4, C-3, C47, C61/D38, C61/D63 or HAZ may serve as the proof of experience for Supervisors
Please Note: There are experience requirements and a third-party exam to become a Project Monitor in the State of California:
Third-Party Exam: Lead Abatement Supervisor or Lead Project Monitor Certification Exam (call Cooperative Personnel Services (916) 263-3624, opt 5).
Application Process: In order to become a certified Lead Supervisor or a Lead Project Monitor, you will need to complete the 40-hr Lead S/PM Initial course, sign up and pass the third-party CPS State certification exam (either the supervisor, project monitor or both), and submit an application along with the appropriate fees to CDPH. Once you receive your card from CDPH you will be certified.
Course Completion Documentation: A CDPH Course Completion Form documenting completion of the Supervisor/Project Monitor Course is given to students who attend all five days and pass the written course examination. Full attendance is mandatory.
