COURSE DESCRIPTION

This OSHA Lead in Construction course includes Respiratory Protection training. Participants who complete this course will have a better understanding of how to comply with the OSHA regulations for Lead in Construction. 

OSHA's Lead Construction Standard specifies how construction industry employers are to protect their workers from the lead exposure hazard. One of the worker protection requirements is to train employees exposed to lead in construction on the health hazards of lead exposure, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, decontamination, and other aspects of the standard.

Your employer must communicate information concerning lead hazards according to the requirementsof OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard for the construction industry, 29 CFR 1926.59, including, but not limited to the requirements concerning warning signs and labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and employee information and training.

Topics include:

  • The content of the 1926.62 standard and its appendices
  • The nature of Renovation, Repair and Painting operations which could result in exposure to lead above the action level
  • The purpose, proper selection, fitting, use, and limitations of respirators
  • The purpose and a description of the medical surveillance program and the medical removal protection program 
  • The engineering controls and work practices associated with the employee's job assignment including training of employees to follow relevant good work practices described in 29 CFR 1926.62 Appendix B section
  • The contents of any compliance plan in effect on the jobsite
  • Instructions to employees that chelating agents should not routinely be used to remove lead from their bodies and should not be used at all except under the direction of a licensed physician
  • The employee's right of access to records under 29 CFR 1910.20
