This Worker Deleader Initial training provides participants with the information necessary to become a lead worker in the lead abatement industry with techniques for carrying out lead-based paint, soil and dust lead abatement. Abatement is any set of measures designed to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards. This course is designed for deleading residential dwellings, including houses and large buildings with numerous units.
Abatement work that is not conducted by a Certified Worker Deleader is subject to heavy fines by local governments and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This course meets the requirements of Massachusetts and OSHA for working with lead. Workers must also receive lead physicals and be licensed in Massachusetts.
Who Should Attend:
The Training Will Cover the Following Topics:
Please Note: This course alone does not allow you to do deleading. Workers must be certified by Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards (DLS). Additionally, persons who work in the field must receive a medical examination (typically provided by employer), and respirator fit-testing. You must be at least 18-years-old to apply for a Deleader Worker license in the State of Massachusetts.
Reciprocity: Once Licensed in Massachusetts, you may apply for reciprocity in the following New England States: Connecticut, Rhode Island (worker only), Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Requirements for Successful Completion:
Maintaining Accreditation: To continue to work in the deleading field, you must attend and successfully complete an 8-hour annual refresher. This refresher must be completed prior to the expiration date on your training certificate. Massachusetts has adopted a 12-month grace period during which you cannot work in deleading, but may attend the 8-hour annual refresher course. If the refresher course is not completed within the grace period, you must repeat the initial 3-day course.
