Why Should You Take This Introduction to Energy and Atmosphere Webinar?
This 1-hour webinar will provide an introduction to energy efficiency initiatives, specific to consumption within buildings. It will also provide an overview of renewable energy options as well as ways to protect the atmosphere through refrigerant management. The webinar will place an emphasis on minimizing the use of standard grid based energy from coal fired power plants, and eliminating the use of CFC-based mechanical cooling equipment. It will also cover a real life example of an energy efficiency initiative within a LEED certified building.
Upon completion of the seminar, a participant will be able to analyze the effectiveness of practicing various energy efficiency and alternative energy initiatives in a new or existing building. They will be able to identify ways to reduce environmental impacts associated with refrigerants in mechanical cooling systems. Participants will be able to measure the benefits of commissioning energy systems and practicing measurement and verification (M&V) and apply their understanding of energy and atmosphere to various real-world examples.
Students will be introduced to the topic of why energy efficiency is important and why we should focus on building applications as a first step toward minimizing global climate change and ozone depletion. The seminar will discuss the importance of monitoring performance of energy conservation measures for various applications. Applications covered include commissioning, optimizing energy performance, monitoring and verifying performance, using renewable energy and renewable energy certificates, and managing refrigerants.
