Why Should You Take This Introduction to Materials and Resources Webinar?
Join us for an overview of materials and resources initiatives for green building projects in this 1-hour introductory webinar. We will discuss the importance of choosing appropriate materials for a building project, as well as managing construction waste and recycling. The course will focus on life cycle impacts associated with material selection decisions.
Students will be introduced to the topic of why traditional methods of materials selection and building construction can fill landfills, consume virgin resources and increase energy use and pollution due to excess transportation. The lecture will emphasize the differences between reducing, reusing and recycling.
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be able to analyze the different characteristics that can contribute to a material's overall sustainability. They will also be able to specify the primary difference between the strategies of reduction, reuse, and recycling and be able to analyze the life cycle impacts of materials to develop a sustainable procurement strategy. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to apply their understanding of materials and resources to a real-world example of a green building case study.
