Why Should You Take This Low-Emitting Materials Webinar?
The Low-Emitting Materials webinar is a 1-hour introductory course on the major categories of low-emitting building materials and the reference standards that relate to each. Students will be introduced to the topic of indoor environmental quality as a major component in green building, as well as its effects occupant comfort and well-being. The course will discuss Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and their potential effect on human health. The types of low-emitting materials as defined by the LEED rating systems will be reviewed, along with the reference standards and agencies that regulate them. These will include adhesives & sealants; paints & coatings; flooring systems; composite wood & agrifiber products; furniture & furnishings; and ceiling & wall systems.
Upon completion of the webinar participants will understand Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and the potential effects on human health. They will be able to classify different categories of materials that can emit VOCs and identify the reference standards that apply to these material types. Participants will also be able to apply low-emitting VOC standards to material specifications and green building practices.
