District energy systems are a highly efficient way to heat and cool many buildings in a given locale from a central plant. The USGBC created The District Energy systems (DES) Guide within the LEED program in order to grant credit to building projects that are using district energy as a source. The focus of this Steaming up your LEED Points with District Steam Energy course is on Steam District Energy and how connection to the system can provide points to LEED building projects in New York City.
Objectives Understand the benefits and any existing risks with utilizing steam for energy purposes. Utilize tools and information needed to understand how district steam works. Become acquainted with the benefits of district steam and acquire points for their building. Understand what LEED categories, pre-requisites and credits are involved and how they interact within the project.
