The 8-hour Permit Required Confined Space Competent Person/Supervisor course is designed to help companies
comply with the OSHA Standards. This course consists of two parts – Entrant/Attendant Training and
Supervisor/Competent Person Training, each lasting four hours.
Part 1 - Entrant/Attendant Training (4 hours) presents an overview of:
Physical & Chemicals Properties that pose a hazard.
Toxicology - Know the signs and symptoms of exposure for the hazardous atmospheres encountered in a confined space.
Uses & limitations of Personnel Protective Equipment.
General overview of the Confined Space regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Entrant / Attendant.
Demonstration of required monitoring, ventilation, & Non Entry rescue equipment.
Reading & Understanding a Confined Space Permit.
Part 2 - Supervisor/Competent Person Training (4 hours) presents an overview of:
Recognition of Confined Spaces
Additional Safety Concerns.
Monitoring Instrument Calibration & Maintenance.
Elements of a Confined Space Hazard Assessment Program.
Confined Space permit.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Entry Supervisor / Competent Person.
At the end of this class, you will receive a Confined Space certificate of completion. Annual refreshers are required to maintain certification.
In order to successfully fulfill the requirements for completion of the 8 Hour Permit Required Confined Space
Competent Person/Supervisor course, students must:
Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted.
Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.
Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the course start date.
Participate during class activities and reviews.
Complete in-course test with a passing grade of 70%.
