Why Should You Take This Lead Inspector/Risk Asessor Course?
This Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor combo training is designed to provide information for those individuals who perform lead-based paint inspections, risk assessments and/or clearance examinations on abatement and renovation projects.
This course will teach the legal obligations facing inspectors/risk assessors when inspecting for lead hazards, and individuals will learn to determine whether or not lead-based paint or other lead hazards are present in sufficient quantities to require abatement according to regulatory guidelines. This workshop prepares you to immediately apply your knowledge to the field, with extensive hands-on training and real-world examples from experienced instructors.
This 5-day class includes:
Age Qualifications: Individuals must be at least 18-years old.
Education and Experience Requirements:
All applicants for a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor permit must have one (1) year of experience in a related field (for example, asbestos, lead, environmental remediation work, or construction-related health and safety inspections), and one (1) of the following:
3rd-Party Exam: Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor applicants must pass a written 3rd-party examination administered under the approval of the New Jersey Department of Health
Company Registration: In addition to complying with the training and individual certification requirements, any individual offering to perform lead hazard evaluations in New Jersey must work for a Lead Evaluation Contractor (including if you are self-employed) or apply to become a Lead Evaluation Contractor. A $2,518.00 fee is required (as of 2022) - view NJ application and requirements.
Maintaining Accreditation: Your initial license will be valid for two years. An application for renewal of a permit shall be submitted during the 90 calendar day period prior to or after the permit's expiration date. The NJ DOH shall renew a permit if the renewal applicant has:
Note: The DOH will treat an application for renewal as a first-time application if the applicant's previous Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor permit has been expired for more than 90 days!
Reciprocity: Applicants who have been trained and permitted outside of New Jersey must provide proof of a currently valid certification with another state which has received US Environmental Protection Agency authorization to administer and enforce a state lead certification and training program under Title IV of the Toxic Substances Control Act.
